History
The town of luck on the Elbe
Glückstadt was founded in 1617 by King Christian IV of Denmark as a planned residence town – a unique Renaissance urban monument with one of the best-preserved town layouts in Northern Germany.
The town lies on the Elbe, just a 45-minute drive from Hamburg. The historic market square, the town church and the harbour invite you to stroll and explore.
For cyclists on the Mönchsweg, Glückstadt is an ideal stopover town – and Gästehaus Kleiner Muck the perfect base.
